“We’ve been getting off to pretty good starts. I guess that was his thinking. You’d have to ask him.”
Add Tyson Chandler to the list of those who believe the decisions of Luol Deng and Ben Gordon to turn down contract extensions has hurt his former team.
‘It’s rough right now because you have had a coaching change and the contract talks,’ Chandler said. ‘You have so many things outside basketball influencing that team. It’s hurting their performance.
‘Once they get everything situated, they’re still going to be a good club. They just have to get a fresh year.’
Then again, Chandler struggled through his poorest season as a pro after signing a six-year, $60 million deal with the Bulls in August 2005. That, a rocky relationship with former coach Scott Skiles and Ben Wallace ’s signing paved the way for his exit via trade to the Hornets. Read more

“But Ben has a knack on his own of getting to the offensive glass and keeping balls alive.”
As Ben Wallace extolled the virtues of playing alongside legitimate 7-footers, dropping names from his past like Elden Campbell and Eric Montross, somebody interrupted him to suggest that Montross stunk.
‘Doesn’t matter,’ Wallace said. ‘Whether you’re a great player or not, if you’re 7 feet and around that basket, they have to pay some attention to you.’
And therein lies Wallace’s, well, larger point.
In Monday’s victory over Seattle, Wallace and 7-footer Aaron Gray logged seven minutes of second-quarter playing time together, during which the Bulls turned a one-point deficit into a five-point lead. Read more

“I was definitely shocked at how little the Lakers gave up to get a player like Pau. It’s one of those things you wondered about last year. But now it’s completely out of our minds.”
The Bulls’ offense received an injection of hope Saturday, even if Pau Gasol took his 18.9 points per game from the Grizzlies to the Lakers.
Ben Gordon returned from missing five games with a sprained right wrist to score a team-high 33 points, and Joe Smith came off the bench after a two-game absence with the flu.
Exactly one year ago, Gasol rumors were as much a part of the Bulls’ season as this annual extended February trip.
But on a night the Bulls dropped to a season-low 10 games under .500 with a 105-101 loss to the Kings, players processed the news that Gasol had moved onward, mindful that no major personnel moves likely will occur between now and the Feb. 21 trade deadline. Read more
