Rumors seem to benefit Bryant, Lakers while Bulls suffer

“As eye-popping as Kobe’s numbers are, the reason they have the record they do is because all those other guys are playing well”

Ray’s a big help to C’s big men

“It’s a lot of things like how to be physical, how to get my shot off quicker and my all-around post moves. He’s a great attribute to this team. I really enjoy having Clifford Ray around.”

Considering that he once saved a dolphin by reaching into its stomach to retrieve a screw and that he has the ability to play most woodwind instruments, it is safe to assume that Clifford Ray’s enormous hands … via Boston Herald

Thomas facing battle for minutes with Noah

“My starters aren’t playing in the fourth quarter either”

The Bulls planned to take Sunday off, but sometime soon, expect coach Scott Skiles to talk with Tyrus Thomas about his reduced role.

Thomas didn’t play for the second straight game Saturday night after logging just 13 minutes 29 seconds of playing time in the last three games combined.

Meanwhile, across the court, Glen Davis, Thomas’ boyhood friend, college teammate and an unheralded second-round pick, is in the rotation for the league-leading Celtics.

Asked if Thomas is currently the odd man out, Skiles didn’t hesitate. Read more

Going back to bad old shooting habits

“But we’ve been a good rebounding team the last few seasons. So I expect us to keep rebounding at both ends.”

One game after shooting a season-best 54.3 percent, the Bulls reverted to their season-long offensive ineptitude Monday night.

They shot 28.8 percent in the first half, which led to coach Scott Skiles benching Kirk Hinrich and Tyrus Thomas , and 34.1 percent overall.

Skiles insists the slump will end for the league’s lowest-scoring and worst-shooting team.

‘I’ve seen these guys shoot the ball,’ he said. ‘At almost 99 points a game [last season] … we looked forward to possibly being a 100-plus-points-per-game team. Coupled with our defense, that equals a very good record at the end of the season. Read more

Redd, Yi Lead Bucks to First Win

Michael Redd scored 27 points and rookie Yi Jianlian added 16 to help the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Chicago Bulls 78-72 on Saturday night for their first victory of the season.

With the win, Milwaukee snapped a 15-game losing streak to Central Division opponents dating back to last season, and kept the Bulls winless through the first week of the season.

Hounded by defensive lapses in their first two games, the Bucks held the Bulls in check. It was a miserable night for the Chicago’s starters. Ben Gordon scored 15, but the rest of the starting five _ Luol Deng, Tyrus Thomas, Ben Wallace, Kirk Hinrich _ were held to single digits. Read more
